Live Earth Stories

Welcome to the Live Earth Stories section of this website.

Live Earth Stories are the stories and storylines of how we as a species awoke from our dream of separation from each other and Nature and found our collective way back to balance and harmony and co-created a wonderful future.

Inside each of us is an inner knowing of how we fit into and belong to life. By looking at the Universe, Earth and Human Stories we can come to see what a miracle the whole thing is.  If we just look at the Earth we can observe that once this was a bare rock that formed from floating debris in space around our Sun. Somehow this bare rock has managed to acquire and develop an atmosphere, water and Life!!!  This has all come out of a bare rock that found itself in the right place at the right time. Was there ever a more fantastic storyline?

There is the story of the man who comes across a tree in winter and says to it ‘ Oh you are a tree.’  He comes back in the autumn and sees apples on the tree so he says to it ‘oh you are an appleing tree!’.  ....... a tree from which apples have emerged. In the same way we can look at the original bare rock that was Planet Earth and say ‘Oh you are a rock’. Looking at it now we would say ‘Oh you are a naturing rock and peopleing rock! ’ ............ a rock from which Nature and People have emerged. It is literally true that we along with the rest of Nature have come out of the Earth. Just as it is true that we will return to it and that we are a living part of it. This is the physical and biological reality of life. It is not an ‘idea’ it is simply the way that it Is.

We use Live Earth as a shorthand term for the recognition of this interconnection and belonging as a starting point. It is also a poetic image for the Earth coming ever more fully alive through mankind growing in awareness of the oneness of all things and learning to live with respect and love for all beings and Nature.

..................................

So we have our Creation Stories and starting point to inform us. What we do now is to look into the future!!

....................

The Future

The Future lies ahead of us and is waiting to be created.  Each of us, as we lead our lives is living a storyline that is contributing to the whole story. We are our own characters in this epic drama and we can do whatever we choose.

A man called Eric Junck created something called Future Workshops in the 1980’s. He realised that people could imagine and create their own futures instead of leaving it to others to organise in a way that was not in the best interests of all.  The key to making this work was to imagine the future clearly and work out the details of how things could be. By doing this people not only designed their own futures they also realised that it was quite easy to take their own power and create them for themselves.

By making up future pictures and stories we can explore and create possible scenarios which if we like them we can then set about actualising them.  It’s a way to make friends with the future and realise that anything is possible.

The Live Earth Stories are just this.  They are possible desirable futures for us all, in which our societies move in a sustainable direction and recover a working balance with Nature.

Storytelling

So the Live Earth Stories are tales set in the future. They can be anywhere from the immediate to the distant future.  It is like a huge blank canvas just waiting to be coloured in with stories.  The stories can start from present moment experience or they can be complete fantasy. Whatever occurs to you.  You can start your own storyline or join together with others. You can make suggestions to other storylines or invite input into your own. You can contribute pieces of story or ideas for events that others can then take and spin into story. You can take story lines and explore them with your friends around a fire and make a note of what comes up and feed that back in. You can do as much or as little as you like.

If you are really keen to contribute on a regular basis you can get to be a Live Earth Storyteller and weave the smaller strands of story and ideas contributed by others into larger rafts of story.

A book that we recommend to all is ‘Haroun and the Sea of Stories’ by Salman Rushdie. This wonderful story tells the tale of a traditional storyteller in the Middle East whose father the Shah of Blah, is connected to the Sea of Stories. Reading this book gives a vivid sense of storylines as living threads that entwine to make vital stories.
