As we stand here in this Present Moment, behind us stretches the Past and ahead of us stretches the Future. In order to understand how we got here to this moment and what it has taken for life to create what we see in front of our eyes, we need to look at the stories of the Past. With this foundation and understanding of the deep interconnectedness of all beings and things, we can then turn to our collective future and from this inner sense of belonging create new and fresh storylines into the future that will explore the routes that our species and society will need to take on the way to back to balance with the rest of Nature and a harmonious future.
The Past ...... Universe Story, Earth Story, Human Story
This website contains the stories from the Past of how the Universe came into being, from which emerged our Galaxy and then our Solar System and Planet Earth. It contains the stories of how our planet formed and how over eons this bare rock floating through space gathered and created itself an atmosphere, water and finally Life. It tells of how that Life took hold and grew in ever increasing complexity, wonder and beauty, filling up the seas and oceans, land and air. It tells of how our species, one among many, evolved and grew and developed into our present day societies that became so powerful that we even came to affect the weather and threaten our own survival.
These stories from the Past are contained in the Universe Story, Earth Story and Human Story. Like all stories they are ever evolving and growing and you are invited to contribute to them with your own understandings and knowledge. In this way we can together weave the storylines of the Past into beautiful tapestries of tales.
Storytelling is of course at the root of all human culture and before we invented writing, stories were passed around and down, telling of events, recording knowledge, commenting on values, teaching, inspiring and above all entertaining. For a story to survive it had to be entertaining, people had to want to hear it again and again.
All cultures and tribes from the dawn of human time right up to now have strived to understand life and how we fit into it and explain how we came to be here. These stories are called Creation Stories or Myths. They were the most sacred and holy possession of a people and there are a myriad of them. Every small group of people or tribe, spread around the world would have their own. These stories acted to define and anchor that peoples sense of identity. From these stories arose their sense of culture, customs and values and religious practices.
It is interesting to note that our word ‘religion’ comes from the latin root word ‘religio’ which means ....... how i am connected or bound together in a bundle. So a ‘religio’ or religion is actually a person or peoples sense of belonging and fitting into Life, Nature, the Earth and the Universe. In other cultures the word for religion also has a similar root meaning.
So at the heart of cultures, we find a story or stories that act to bind those people together with themselves, Nature and the Universe.
These tales were created by the poets, shaman and seers of old to poetically explain reality. What is particularly beautiful to note is wonderful accuracy of ancient tales when we compare them with our modern quantum stories and understandings. Not only do they predict our ‘modern discoveries’ they also speak of and infer still greater realities and possibilities that exist. To be able to do this tells us that the gifts of poetic intuition, instinct, imagination, foretelling and past knowing are every bit as valid as scientific rationale.
This is particularly exciting for us because it means that through using our similar gifts we can create and weave strands of possibility, wonder and future story to serve our emerging planetary culture. By pooling our inspirations, insights and intuitions we can make new stories for our culture that are based in connection and Nature.
Just like the Creation Stories of old the newly emerged stories of the origins of the Universe, Galaxy, Solar System, Planet, Life, Nature and Species combine to make a spectacular and wondrous epic story that brims over with beauty that can serve us all as our modern Creation Story.
The Future ........ Live Earth Stories
The Live Earth Stories are stories about our possible future.
They are based in the work of Joanna Macy, the American Deep Ecologist. Deep Ecology is the name for the body of work and practices that looks at our origins as a species that is one amongst many. By reconnecting with this understanding it enables us to start to live in a connected manner, with respect for our fellow species. This is of course in direct contrast with the modern social trend of exploitation that is based in a sense of separation from Nature.
Part of Joanna’s body of work includes what she calls ‘The Great Turning’. The Great Turning is an exercise in which people imagine themselves to be a hundred years in the future. Life on the Earth has returned to harmony and humankind are living in balance with Nature and each other. Obviously humankind are not heading in that direction at the moment! So the exercise of The Great Turning is of people, from the imaginary point in the future, looking back and telling the stories of what happened, that caused humankind to wake up and change their ways and create a future of harmony.
This is a great exercise and the stories that tumble out of people are simply wonderful. They show that all the answers, creativity, possibilities and understandings are present in ordinary people, you and me. Discovering this for yourself is a really big thing as it dispels the creeping sense of despair that afflicts our present day society as we confront the difficulties that surround us. It’s as if by finding imaginary and creative ways through to a desired future hope, inspiration and good feeling come flooding in.
Live Earth takes this exercise and moves it on a notch by bringing into the mix the breakthrough Live Earth patterning and understandings especially around the Live Earth or Planetary Common Bond. You can think of ‘Live Earth’, as the shorthand term for life viewed from the interconnectedness of all things perspective.
So the Live Earth Stories are storylines told into the future of how our species rediscovered its sense of connection with Nature and Life and how this created a wonderful groundswell that regenerated and recreated human society so that it recovered its balance with Nature.
In the Live Earth Story section of this website you will find some start up storylines and all the information of how you can join in and contribute ideas, inspirations and storylines of your own. The Live Earth Story is a cooperative story and it will take us all to tell it.
You will find details of how you can become a Live Earth Storyteller if you would like to. A Live Earth Storyteller gathers peoples strands and ideas and weaves them into major storylines that can then interact and grow with others. Also included are details of how you can do this in real time with your friends and family and discover for yourself the wonder of it.
The stories can be on the personal, family, community, local, national or global levels. They will all fit together and weave into a wondrous ever-growing tapestry that will be beyond our individual imagination. Hopefully this will then provide inspiration, hope, idea’s for ways forward and act as a visionary map for possible futures.
The Live Earth Story is made up of the stories of the Past which are the Universe Story, the Earth Story, the Human Story and the stories from the Future which are the Live Earth Stories.
Each of us has a strand of storyline in our hearts and it is the gathering of these strands that will give us the raw material for the Live Earth Story to come fully to life and be woven into a sparkling cloth of story that we can use as a sail to gather the winds of fortune and steer ourselves to a future of balance and harmony with Nature.
